The Arab League declared Jerusalem the Arab Cultural Capital for 2009
The Arab League declared Jerusalem, the Arab Cultural Capital for 2009. The declaration is based on the UNESCO Cultural Capital Program. The Arab Thought Forum organized a workshop in Jerusalem on February 24th, 2007 to explore the scope of this event and the necessary preparation for the associated activities. More than 80 personalities participated representing many public and civil society institutions including religious and political entities. A second meeting will take place shortly in Ramallah to allow those who where not able to attend due to provide their feedback. It was agreed that the event is highly important and needs very careful preparation and full participation of all concerned parties. A committee headed by the ATF will prepare for the next meeting.
