Ranking of Palestine on the Global Corruption Index

The debate organized on 2007-01-09 in Ramallah to discuss the low ranking of Palestine on the Global Corruption Index issued annually by the Transparency International. Palestine occupied the ranking of 108 and 107 on the years 2004 and 2005 respectively out of about 150 countries, on 2004 the ranking were 87 out of about 120 countries. As compared with other Arab and non Arab countries this ranking looks extremely low and absolutely not fair. The participants conclude that this ranking should be examined to fairly represent the reality. For this regard the participants recommend to form special committee composed of Palestinian experts to develop local index based on concrete indicators. The Index to be will be used also as an argument to re locate Palestine in proper place on TI Index.
